The Water

Water Water burning bright,
In the States of this fight;
What mortal hand or eye,
Could decide your flow?

In what distant deeps or skies.
Burnt the fire of thine cries?
On what fields dare they grow?
What the hand, dare can plough?

And what court, & dam wide,
Could twist the sinews of thy tide?
And when thy valleys go dry
What good strike? O’ Nature my!

What the people? What the pain,
You do ooze through their vein?
What the dispute? what lost cause,
Dare these futile fickle laws!

When the spring ebbs underground
And water’d this earth love bound
Did you think of this day to see?
Did you descend the hills to get free?

Water Water burning bright,
In the States of this fight;
What mortal hand or eye,
Could decide your flow?

My Best Friend

Few days back I had mentioned an very famous essay ‘Umbrella Morals’ in one of my blog posts and now I am back again with an another tale. This time it is completely mine. These days I prefer to call my umbrella as my best friend because the showers here are as eerie as the folks of this town. The actions and reactions are lifelessly slow and silent, nevertheless sweet. So are the rains, beautiful yet troubling! I am not yet used to any of this. And an umbrella is the only thing that can safeguard me from some perish is what I feel.

Last evening not very surprisingly the fragile black one of mine happened to give up all its efforts to save me and decided to deceive me during my hard times. It turned upside down breaking here and there beyond repair, thanks to the winds and rains this place is blessed with. I had actually made a bad choice when I bought it for I was new to this place and I did not know what works here, rather what does not! And a day without an umbrella here is like living in a desert without an oasis! So today I was forced to go on a  umbrella hunt in the Hampanakatta market where I found this:

Liked it? Blue and yellow are my favourite colours. Very floral I know but for some strange reasons umbrellas are a fashion statement in Mangalore. These long kinds are in fact known as ‘Ajjana Kode’ [Grandfather’s Umbrella!] but times now have changed and every other girl here owns it. It is strong and sturdy and therefore serves as a protection weapon maybe, enough to bash up a gang! Meanwhile I am wondering how long it shall last in these grieving months of ill weather, I am just hoping that at least this one wishes to stay as my best friend!

And this is what my bona fide best friend whom I fondly call Calvin had to say after looking at the picture I mailed him:

“Ayyo too girly! I won’t be able to use it if I ever come to Mangalore!”

 Calvin says
'True friends are hard to come by'

And all this Hobbes has to say is
'Best friends are harder to please !!!'

Not Just Lonely But Alone

Sometimes you have no choice but to stand beyond all the lasts...

A twilight so wonderful colored with the last light of violet and blue
When we had the time for every small feat that we together could do
You played the last note on your piano to let my heart with joys fill
I closed my eyes heaving a gleeful sigh,it blended with the tranquil

Melting clouds soon brought the last storm for us while flying pass
While in an earnest wait on the ground thirsty was our reed of grass
Pitter patter the last drop of rain fell not anywhere but on the roof
I looked around to find you all set to wander in the woods all aloof

Seeing you walk the last leaf on our tree drooped to wave goodbye
All that reached the land holding my feet were tears of my silent cry
I stand now at the last turn of a road where I saw you stroll and go
For you were my one friend the best who could never turn my foe

Waves of the past hit me over and again say O'cmon one last tide
And bring back those moments naive that took our world for a ride
Little did I know then that those were my fine days of one last smile
I wonder would you come now and take me along from this old isle

Come to me again, there are songs to sing and things together to do
Make me feel for a change that you were nothing but nice and true
Hold my hands, paint my dream a strength with your one last touch
What I wish and ask in all this life from you for me,is it too much?

Buried or bruised I shall stay quiet in the lightlessness not strange
Skies of hope will be my blanket and the lands of faith my grange
Remember every grain of sand beautiful once belonged to a stone
The last shore where you left me,I am not just lonely but alone.

Peek-A-Boo!

“I have no trouble with my enemies.I can take care of my enemies in a fight.
But my friends, my goddamned friends,
they’re the ones who keep me walking the floor at the nights”
-Warren G Harding-

I laid there on the grass watching my roof in the boundless dark
A screeching owl flew past my eyes with echoes of a singing lark

The stars then brought inside my tent a wanderer dirty that night
Whose smile could colour a million milky ways all silver and white

He stared saying ‘O’friend join me for a game’ with a feel so true
Like merry souls we strolled then in the woods playing peek a boo

I lost no treasures when he won and chuckled during every game
For the time first my world was not any loner or longer the same

Burst a wish next and made me ask "Aye,shall I with myself keep
I shall love and look after your tender lights from my heart deep"

He brawled saying"What enough reason is that for me to stay?"
Under his bed of clouds he ran to hide while I did not go away!

I laid there on the grass again for I knew he will be back soon
Even if he could not turn mine in half or full he is my only moon

Pray I did in a whispering weep to see him return in a fiery blare
Times like these I find a ray of hope when I let him go with dare

When sleepless such pensive flooded like brooks of restless rile
He peeped saying"Eh silly girl, did you miss me all this while?".

Ties That Bind

He was here before but it did not really feel like long ago,the path was decorated with the most colourful lantanas and the greenest of grass on either of its side.At the end was a gurgling river on the bank of which there was someone waiting for his arrival since quite some time.As her eyes shifted from one end to the other beyond the waters seeking him, she had a strange feeling about the morning because she was hearing something different. He crawled stealthily as he came near her,she was sure it was him.She had already made up her mind to interrogate him brutally like always for he was back after almost months. She had actually lost count. So she wanted to make her anger obvious and he like always got ready for what was coming in the next few hours.

He came close and patted her back gently with his paw and said a meek “Hello”.She turned and growled as he did expect.“So where were you all these days?” asked the not so pleased tigress. He looked into her tear filled eyes,he forgot his well rehearsed answer and she forgot the rest of her queries, well this felt very scary and bizarre.

“Oh! I was out in the jungles hunting, had a good time and what about you?”.She looked back at the waters again speechless, usually she would talk for hours with him about every little event that would had happened in his absence, about every game and every rain.He would often make these kind of long trips and bring his tales of adventure to share. But when he was gone the last time she did not move from the place he left, she decided to wait. And wait she did with a gut feeling, everyday in the same place. Two seasons passed, the nights grew colder and she never felt more lonely. Most of the deers and hares were hunted down and killed by the rest of the meat devouring folks, but her hunger stayed. She survived with the stream.Looking at her bitter state he was hurt.He asked her in a roar “What made you wait this long?”.She frowned to say “He will be here anytime soon, please do not move…so said my heart”.

He walked away without a word and climbed a boulder and sat there staring at her almost till midday, the sun sailed through the skies and reached right above his thinking head. She sat there without any change in her expressions. The green, the blue and the yellow never brought this warmth ever before for both of them. The river flowed with a new rage and suddenly thinking of him she felt a burst of energy inside her.His presence made everything perfect.
"As long as the ties that bind us together are stronger
than those that would tear us apart, all will be well."

She chuckled and he could not ask for more. They stood up and walked towards each other, brushing their foreheads and cuddling each other they fought with their paws.He earned a well deserved rip from her claw, but now it did not hurt. When dusk set in,they strolled towards their cave on the hill top. There was work to do and a life to live.He would go again wandering in the woods and search until he found his treasures, she would wait again back making his home for him. They knew everything about each other but nothing about the day called tomorrow. They would fight again. They would love again. She was happy because he survived her hope.He was happy because she lived for him.

PS: “The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale” so said Richard Dawkins.

Yet we shall not just survive but live!

Rope Tugs n Bear Hugs

I have this strange aptitude of talking with people straight on their face, sometimes like giving a hundred million volt lightning slap at a go.Zzzzzzatttak!!!I fail to understand the subtle nature of certain situations.I happened to fight with this only poor best friend of mine today and cry like a wail bird...as always.I wonder sometimes why I am not on the higher side of my temper with all the people I know, why is it that I can have a WWE heart fight everyday with just one, how can I accept others the way they are or they treat me.Strange!

A few have never had an experience of what I am talking about, the good Lord is with them.A few live with it like Mom and Dad, fortunately they know the right things which calms me down at the right time. And for this someone I mentioned about, who knows that it is just another super human quality that I show, it is almost a routine. Both hands up in the air, I bow down and surrender!

In anger sometimes the truth comes out, some say people do not have a clue of what they are talking, sometimes they make a perfect unpleasing sense. My anger belongs to all the three kinds, luckily it does not last till the end of a minute.I have never made any resolutions to control it either,I make an awesome pig head always.I fight about anything and everything  that comes along;people, things, attitude and most of the times for nothing, when an bored! And after the dynamite bursts out there is always so much damage control to do,which is quite a task. And trust me repentance for an emotion like anger gives you a hundred million volt lightning slap too.Zzzzzatttak!!! I do not want to make false promises saying I will not fight any more,I know I am gonna do it again another day soon this week;)but whenever I fight I am sorry at the end and I am more hurt;I have finished many packs of tissue already!

All I pray to God is to bless this soul with more power, courage and most of all patience to handle this total nut and set her battery right!!!

PS1: Sorry,any number won't do.

PS2: Thank you Calvin, for all that you give.

PS3: A bear hug, because they are not always fatal;)
